Kellie is a Seattle-based health and science writer, and an adjunct health writing professor. She writes a biweekly column called The Health Divide for USC's Center for Health Journalism where she completed a health journalism fellowship. She writes about health for a variety of publications including Johns Hopkins Public Health magazine, Parent Map, and My Edmonds News, where she received a grant supporting local health coverage.
Kellie covers health inequities, health policy, public health, and children's health. She enjoys telling the human stories that bring science stories to life. Kellie's freelance work has been published in the Johns Hopkins Public Health Magazine, GeekWire, The California Health Report, CNN Travel, The Economist's Business China, the China Economic Review, The Wall Street Journal, World Hum, Afar Magazine, and Dialogues Magazine, a publication produced by The Atlantic. She was a section editor on the health disparities issue of The Science Writer. Previously, Kellie has worked as a staff writer at The Mercury News, The Recorder, and The Bakersfield Californian. Her reporting has won awards from The Associated Press, The California News Publishers Association, and the Association of Health Care Journalists among others. Kellie earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Richmond and completed a master's degree in science writing through Johns Hopkins University. |
